Overview
In 2021, as schools were adjusting to post-COVID teaching environments, educators at Arlington ISD were relying more than ever on digital tools and instructional technologies. Teachers frequently needed support learning new software, adapting to technology-enhanced instruction, and staying current on policy updates.
However, many of the available training resources were difficult to locate, making it challenging for educators to quickly get the support they needed. To improve access to technology training resources, I designed and launched a centralized Teacher Training Resource Center.
Business Problem
Training materials were scattered across multiple platforms and locations. As a result, educators often spent unnecessary time searching for resources or reaching out for help.
This created several challenges:
Difficulty locating training materials and tutorials
Slower adoption of new instructional technologies
Inefficiencies in how professional development resources were delivered
In addition to technical resources, many new teachers also needed informal support and mentorship as they navigated teaching during a rapidly changing environment.
My Process & Analysis
Through needs analysis and conversations with instructors, I identified a clear opportunity to simplify access to training resources. Educators needed a centralized resource hub where they could quickly find:
Software tutorials
Instructional technology training
Job aids and quick reference guides
Updates on district processes and policies
Teachers also expressed a need for peer support and collaboration, particularly for new educators who were adjusting to post-pandemic teaching environments.
Solution & Tools
I designed and launched a Teacher Training Resource Center, a centralized hub where educators could easily access professional development materials and technology training resources. The resource center was hosted on Google Sites to make navigation simple and allow educators to access materials anytime. Using a Google Site was a strategic, low-cost solution that allowed for a quick ramp up time, easy development, and a familiar user interface which helped with collaboration.
The platform included:
Instructional video tutorials for common software tools
Training resources for interactive technologies such as H5P
Job aids and instructional guides
Policy and process updates
To further support educators, I also launched a New Teacher Liaison Program, which created a space for new teachers to connect, share ideas, and mentor one another across the district. This program helped foster collaboration and allowed experienced educators to provide guidance and practical tips.
The goal was to create a sustainable support system that could continue even after the initial rollout and my departure, allowing the platform and mentorship program to be maintained by other members of the training team.
Impact
The Teacher Training Resource Center significantly improved access to professional development resources and helped educators more easily adopt new instructional technologies.
Key outcomes included:
Centralized access to training materials and tutorials
Strong educator adoption of the platform
Improved support for teachers adapting to digital tools
Survey data showed that over 60% of instructors actively used the resource center, demonstrating strong engagement and value for the district’s teaching staff.
